Picture Politics – Sarjakuvilla oikeistopopulismia vastaan. Webcomics against right-wing populism. Meet the artists at Perjantaiverstas 28 April

Perjantai 28.4. Kirjaverstas, Teurastamo, Työpajankatu 2 R4 klo 18–19.30

mika-lietzenGoethe-Institutin Picture Politics -taideprojektissa sarjakuvataiteilijat eri Euroopan maista ovat luoneet internetiin teoksia oikeistopopulismia ja äärinationalismia vastaan. (Sarjakuvat ovat luettavissa täällä.) Helsingissä projekti jatkuu historiallisilla sarjakuvilla kunkin taiteilijan omasta maasta.

History and politics in comics

In the Picture Politics art project, comics artists from different European countries came together to create webcomics against the rise of right-wing populist tendencies and toxic forms of nationalism. You can read the comics here: www.goethe.de/ins/fi/fi/kul/sup/pol.html. The project is organised by the Goethe-Institut.

As a continuation of the project, the Picture Politics history comics workshop in Helsinki brought together a group of artists to create comics about history in their respective countries.

What can we learn from the past? How can we avoid repeating any 20th Century mistakes?

In the panel, we discuss the Picture Politics webcomics we have created in the Helsinki workshop, as well as other recent works by the artists. We hear about their ideas and work methods. The final history comics will also be published online in May.
